Bunny Bedding

11/10/2010 Suitable bedding materials for rabbits are shavings, barley straw or hay. Many of these are cheap to buy and readily available. A thick layer of newspaper on the hutch floor will make disposing of bedding easier, just roll it up in the paper and dispose of.

If you have a large run attached to your rabbit’s hutch suitable materials for playing in include autumn leaves that are clean and dry. Your bunny will love to dig and forage through these. Also branches of fruit trees can be a great thing to gnaw on and provide wear for their ever-growing front teeth.

Cheap items around the home can also be used in your rabbit house to provide entertainment. Cardboard boxes can make a wonderful place for a rabbit to sleep in just make a large round opening. They will also spend hours playing in the tunnels made. You could stuff with hay and a fruit treat such as apple and make their feeding experience a more natural one with having to search and graze for feed. The boxes themselves will eventually get chewed to bits but a supply of cardboard boxes is endless.

Disposed of hutch cleanings can be composted as none of the materials used will harm the soil in any way.
